Role models
I am really surprised by the role models people have these days.not that I am trying to provoke or inspire cos everyone’s got their rights to exercise in our free democratic country (yes democratic is what our government calls it). Yes coming back to role models .I would first want to talk about the teenage and school going girls( those school girls who are trying too hard ,not to look their age …….oh yes isn’t it ironic at one point of time in a women’s life she does try to look a little older).who do they idol worship ? The likes of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Priyanka Chopra and the latest of all is Deepak Padukone. So now I know how the next generation girls are going to look like ‘plastic’
It would be like a mass production of life size Barbie‘s, with the familiar straight hair (offcourse! not as straight as Karan Johari), that tight Lokhandwala market type T-shirt (one’s which are like spandex…pardon my ignorance), those jazzed up bling-bling jewelry, sparkling shoe with matching bags and how can I forget, my favorite the figure hugging jeans with those cheap fade…their motto in life : man life is all about looking cool, meeting friends and partying...and what after that?....post party-party they say.
I asked them so what do you have to say about the new president of India, one of the girly girl’s said, “oh that dude whose got ‘TERE NAAM’ haircut, he needs a trim dude!” so what she meant to say was Pratibha Patil is a dude (gender changing is a federal offence they say) or as I interpret it they remember MR.Kalam for his hairstyle .ah…It gives me a feeling of pride to know my generation is updated. I wanted to talk about Kalpana Chawla, but I didn’t want them to in anyway relate her to ‘Juhi Chawla” some still think they are related.
Enough said about the girls what about teenage guys. “Wass up my nigga” (in normal English terms mean ‘how are you doing negro?’ now I fail to understand why do you want to call each other niggas. You might be dark dude but not a nigga ! Lose clothes, baggy pants, bling, hip-hop vocabulary and tilted cap might make you look like one but what you really have to check is the equipment provided by god it still is very in Indian size norms. So next time you want to call someone a ‘nigga’ just shut up would you?
Same is the term “wats up dawg?”(How are you doing dog?) Yes I know you greeted me in a friendly manner I wont tolerate a person calling me a dog. Why a dog? Why not a horse? Horse is such an elegant animal; dogs are so messy with runny nose and skunkish odor and why an animal I thought man was the greatest and the most intellectually advanced creatures.
Now coming back to role models. I asked a black t-shirt shirt guy who was walking as if he was spineless and hadn’t eaten for a week ( was wearing a nirvana t-shirt ,by the way nirvana totally kicks ass, the guy wearing the T was a disgrace though).I asked him whose your role model ? He said, “Mother Teresa” and I said ‘what?’ are you sure? He replied “yeah dude” I added ‘what did she do?’ he brimming with confidence said , “ dude a lot of things , first she did a lotta charity ,then did social service ,fought for animal rights and ummmm…haan ya she did some charity, she’s truly our mother not only our mother she’s mother India!” all I could say was “ truly inspiring mate”
Gandhi’s, TATA’s, Birla’s, Ms Kalpana chawla, Sachin Tendulkar, Mr. Chidambaram ,Mr. Manmohan Singh , A.R Rehman , all the jawans, shaheed jawans and the armed forces , Netaji (S.C Bose) and all the Indian greats who have made us proud please step aside .our youth chooses orkut as their idol…….long live India!
